BRCA journey: a lot can happen in a year

On this day last year, I had my first genetic counseling. At that time, I had no idea that a year later I’d be two months out of my preventative surgery.

Goodbye, 2019!

This has been a big year for me. Not everything was good and not everything was easy, but I appreciate all the lessons learned. And I have a lot to be thankful for going into the new year.

What do you do when life gives you lemons? My lemons came in the form of a breast cancer gene and there was no way to make lemonade. So, I started this blog.Six and a half years ago my world turned upside down when my sister got diagnosed with breast cancer. And even more so five years later when she lost her battle. At that same time, I’ve decided (for about the tenth time) to get tested for the BRCA gene.
